Major milestone reached as Woodlands Meed College confirmed ready for pupils

West Sussex’s newest college for young people with SEND is now ready for pupils, with Sectional Completion confirmed by West Sussex County Council on 24 June. This milestone marks the completion of the new build phase of the college redevelopment project – with the facility now handed over to the Council in readiness for full occupation.

The new Woodlands Meed College building provides an outstanding environment for young people to thrive in a purpose-built education setting. Both internal and external spaces have been designed to stimulate the senses, build confidence and foster strong bonds of friendship and community. The new building contributes positively to its location with impressive landscaped grounds and features to minimise its impact on the environment – including roof-mounted solar panels and a green roof to absorb CO2 emissions and reduce surface rainwater run-off.

The building is now available to the College for occupation, when students will benefit from the fantastic new facilities, including a new sports hall, hydrotherapy pool, multi-use games area, landscaped gardens, and well-appointed classrooms and spaces for socialising.

The project team is now mobilising for the second and final phase of the scheme, which sees the systematic and careful demolition of the old College building and creation of new outdoor leisure facilities, with works commencing after staff and students have decanted into the new Woodlands Meed College.
