Work to build a brand new college building for young people in West Sussex with SEND has been continuing at pace over the summer holidays.
The foundations for the new college have now been fully completed as the building starts to take shape. The ground floor slab has also been completed, while all ground floor columns and walls have also now been put in place.
Work to construct the first floor is now well underway, with the first floor slab taking shape. Construction of first floor columns and walls has also started which will in turn enable work to start on the roof in the near future.
Over the summer, the site team have been compiling a timelapse video which shows the incredible progress on the college building between late May and the start of the new term as the summer holidays came to an end. You can view the timelapse video here:
As the building has risen from the ground over the summer, work has also been progressing well across the wider site. The existing college car park was extensively refurbished and extended over the holidays to allow for better mini-bus access. Utilities infrastructure has also been installed through to the new building, including power, water, gas and communications connections.
On 5th of September a concrete slab pour took place on site which unfortunately caused an overrun of site hours. The nature of such pours is that once they have got underway, they need to be completed in full. This overrun was unforeseen, however lessons have been taken away from this and the site team is taking steps to endeavour that no further overruns to site operational hours occur.
Over the coming weeks, work will continue to complete the first floor slab, columns and walls to enable work to get under way on installing the roof slab. Meanwhile, outside we will be commencing work to create the amphitheatre area.
